Antique Japanese Meiji Era (c1860’s) Kodansu Personal Tansu 6 Drawer 25"W Metalwork the drooping eyelidsThis is an antique Japanese Meiji era (1868 1912) kodansu (personal chest). Used for storing documents, money and other precious items it is made throughout of solid Kiri wood (paulownia) front and case. Kodansu chest were a special piece used to store one's most valued items. There are two lock plates but the locks have over time become inoperable and no key is necessary and no risk of getting locked out. Height = 21. 25" (54cm) Width = 24. 75 (63cm)
